SGS GARDEN SERVICES About Us

SGS Garden Services started in 2003 when I (steven Burke) decided to give self employment a go. I began work as a building site labourer, working for my Grandfather at 'Speyside Properties Development Ltd' I learned alot about construction & when houses were finished I got the job of landscaping the gardens & laying turf. I began to get better & better through trial & error.

I thought about starting up by myself quite often at that time, but i didn't know how to go about it. Shortly after I had a bad motor cycle accident which left me with a head injury which in turn paralysed me down my right hand side in 1999. Through plenty of support and determination i managed to get on my feet again and i decided to start up business in 2002. I managed to get help from the Princes Trust & HIE. George Ramsay my grandfather helped to secure work at Speyside Property Development Ltd in landscaping & turfing all the gardens.

I started off with buying small tools, a honda lawn mower, a cement mixer, a trailer & a transit van with some savings I had...actually all my savings!! It was a big gamble for me & people tryed to put me off starting up by my self but I dug my heels in & I'm still here today. It has it's ups & downs but that comes with the territory.
